Welcome to Silverpines, Oregon

Let me tell you about Silverpines, Oregon. It’s a town on the outskirts of Astoria. Mining and lumber are the primary money makers of this old western metropolis. All kinds of business, families, and peoples there.

That is, until two disasters level the town. The first earthquake hit the town, April 15th. It destroyed the silver mine and buried a lot of our men under the unrepentant earth. Five hundred if you really want to know. Rescuers came from all over trying to help the men get out of the mine. Then, it collapsed killing the rescuers.

I couldn’t hardly grieve for more than a day when the next day, another earthquake destroyed Timber Town. A massive mudslide carried away all the lumber the men had been cutting, washing away the entire place. Fathers, brothers, and sons, all gone. Buried alive.

All that’s left is a lot of women without their men. Children without fathers. The petty differences that once separated us have been obliterated along with town we once called home. And the women of Silverpines have to band together in order to survive.

In the town of Silverpines, we need men. We can’t build the town back by ourselves and we can’t leave our children behind. So, we’ll send put a letter in the mail and hopefully, when the train or the stagecoach comes in, we’ll have ourselves new grooms.

You might think it’s insane but what choice do we have? And the men we send for, what kind of men are they? Will our hearts be captured or are just setting ourselves up for disappointment?

The only way to find out is visit Silverpines, Oregon.

Silverpines is a new series I’m involved with. It’s my first foray into historical fiction. I find myself very excited about this series because I’m working with some wonderful authors. The first two books are already out with the third releasing on April 10th

Perhaps you want to know more about Silverpines before you take a trip out there. Might I suggest you join the Silverpines Reading Group on Facebook. We have a fun, very active group where we do a lot of sharing, talking about the series or just hanging out. You can join the group by clicking on this link:

To visit Silverpines, start with the first book: Mail Order Marshal by George McVey

Mail Order MarshalBetsy Pike’s world comes crashing down when her fiancé, Silverpines’ Town Marshal, is gunned down on the eve of their wedding. To add insult to injury, his killer takes over every part of Ike’s life, the job of marshal, his house, and he even wants Betsy. What’s a girl to do? The men of the town won’t stand up to the outlaw and self-appointed marshal. When he gives her two months to grieve, Betsy comes up with a desperate plan: contact Elizabeth Tandy and order up a husband who has experience as a lawman.

Alexzander Sewell feels like he’s in the wrong place in Beckham, Massachusetts. Born and raised on Ryder Mountain in Harlan, Kentucky, he longs for the mountains of his youth. When his mother moved the whole family to remarry, he became stuck in the town of Beckham. Now his friends, the Tandy’s, offer him a chance to go west, all the way to the Rocky Mountains. The only catch: he must marry a woman in desperate need of a husband and a lawman. Can he find a way to be what Betsy needs and spend time in the mountains?

Can Betsy let go of her love for Ike and learn to love her mail order husband? Can Alexzander compromise on his dream of disappearing into the mountains to be the man his wife needs? Can they bring the killer to justice or will a series of natural disasters not only spell the end of Silverpines but of their marriage, too? What’s a woman to do when she orders up a Mail Order Marshal?

Wanted HorsebreederThe next book in the series is called Wanted: Horsebreeder by Barbara Goss

An earthquake shook more than the ground in Silverpines, Oregon!

April, 1899

A silver mine cave-in and lumber camp mud slide caused a shortage of young men in town. Women were saddled with running businesses and ranches alone. Laura Bennett, owner of White Oaks ranch, sends for a mail order husband.

Max Winters lost the love of his life, Catherine, to another man, so he decides to answer Laura’s ad. Since his true love was gone, he’d settle for a good partnership and a new life. He travels to Silverpines and is met with a beautiful bride and her adorable daughter, but also, many trials and setbacks. Will they overcome the tribulations and truly fall in love even after Catherine shows up as a widow?

Now you may be wondering when will my book about this wonderful town be coming out? I’ll tell you this much: just wait and see!

Until next time,

Parker J.
