TAKEOFF,
California Wildfires Spreading Fast,
Thousands of firefighters are now battling at least three major wildfires in the Los Angeles area, where 70,000 residents are under evacuation orders and 1.5 million customers are without power.
The Palisades, Eaton, and Hurst fires have burned over 35 square miles, stretching from the Pacific Coast to Pasadena. At least 28,000 structures are at risk, with 1,000 already destroyed. See the fire map here.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom has proclaimed a state of emergency and visited with state and local fire officials on the scene. The fires are being described as the most destructive in Los Angeles history.
Officials have warned residents that dry conditions and gusting Santa Ana winds will result in further destruction as the fires remain 0% contained.
Justice Department to Release Only Jan. 6 Report
Attorney General Merrick Garland announced Wednesday that he’ll release the part of special counsel Jack Smith’s report dealing with President-elect Donald Trump’s actions around Jan. 6.
However, Garland said the DOJ will withhold the Mar-a-Lago classified documents portion while two co-defendants still face trial. That part of the report will be made available to House and Senate Judiciary Committee members in private.
It was unclear when the Jan. 6 volume of the report would be made public. Experts say the classified documents report would most likely never be released.
List: Best Waffle Cafe in Each State,
A list of the best waffle restaurants in each state shows that Americans love waffles whether piled high with berries or drenched in syrup with a side of fried chicken.
The list ranges from the simple waffle at Le Peep in Nebraska to the breakfast cereal-covered waffle from the Moffle Bar food truck in New Jersey.
More than 10 restaurants serve fried chicken with their waffles. Some places, like Yo’ Mama’s in downtown Birmingham, Alabama, serve the chicken on the side, while others, following the example of Dame’s in North Carolina, place the chicken directly on top of the waffle.
Still others, like Oklahoma’s Waffle Champion and Texas’ Seabrook Waffle Company, elevate the waffle to brunch status by stacking savory items like eggs, bacon, ham, chicken, and a dash of Tabasco honey.
