In Times of Uncertainty We Have His Promises: Two Minute Devotional

by Lisa Prysock

Almost everywhere we look during these times are troubling circumstances.  During these uncertain times, there is only one place we can look upon which we can rely:  the Word, to Jesus, to the King of all Kings.  He is the only one upon whom we can place our trust in this hour! There are promises in the Word upon which we can place our faith, our hope, and our dreams.

Why the Word?  John 1:1-4 tells us:  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  2 The same was in the beginning with God.  3 All things were made by Him; and without Him was not anything made that was made.  4 In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. Verse 6-11 tell us about John the Baptist, who was a witness of the light, and that the light was in the world though his own did not receive it. Here he is speaking of Israel.

Verse 12-14 of John 1 goes on to say:   But as many as received him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name. 13 Which were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.  14 And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

1 Peter 1:25 But the Word of the Lord endureth forever.  And this is the Word by which the gospel is preached to you.  Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our God stands forever.

Because of these verses, we know that when everything else is unsure in our world, we can look to our Lord and His Word.  On this we can stand firm because He is an anchor to our souls.

Some of my favorite promises are these:

Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.  Acts 16:31

For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.  Isaiah 44:3

And if you spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.  Isaiah 58:10

Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the Lord delivers him in times of trouble.  The Lord will protect him and preserve his life; and will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes.  Psalm 41:1,2

Then Jesus declared, I am the bread of life.  He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.  John 6:35

Everything is possible for him who believes.  Mark 9:23

I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life.  John 6:47

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.  Psalm 37:4

Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.  Matthew 6:33

The Lord God is a sun and a shield:  the Lord will give grace and glory:  no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.  Psalm 84:11

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.  Jeremiah 29:11

Have a blessed day as you stand on these promises and invite the Lord into all of your circumstances!  He is faithful and as we stand in faith, He releases victory in every situation!
