CrossPs. 119:43,44 Do not snatch your word of truth from me for my only hope is in your laws. I will keep on obeying your law forever and forever.

We have no hope apart from God’s truth. It there is no absolute truth that flows from an absolute God, we have absolutely nothing. There is absolutely nothing apart from God that gives us any cause to hope. As King Solomon put it so well, “Meaningless, meaningless, all is meaningless.” Life is nothing more than a chasing after an uncatchable wind.

The more we strive to obey God’s law, the more secure our hope becomes. We soon discover with a growing confidence that indeed it is Truth and apart from it there is no truth. There is no shortcut when it comes to discovering Truth. We must spend the time and careful thought that is needed for us to gain understanding. We must be consistently into the Word of God. We cannot know God’s revealed truth any other way.

When we discern truth we must be committed to obeying it for as long as we live. Righteous living doesn’t just happen. We must make obeying God the number one priority of our lives. We must determine in our hearts that we will not take away from, or add to, God’s Word. We must make it our life goal, to live by the Word of God and not veer off its path.

To not obey God’s Word is not an option for the child of God. We cannot stay in fellowship with God if we ignore His Word. There is no hope for our souls if we don’t submit to God’s Word and His authority over us. We cannot have faith and determine for ourselves how we are going to live. We cannot adjust the Word to our liking. It’s God’s way or no way.

About the Author:

Jim HughesSpending his formative years in Ft. Wayne, IN, Jim followed the love of his life to southeast Iowa where they married and have spent the majority of their lives. Jim has pastored several churches throughout his life and has worked many years in local factories to help support his family. The father of two married adult children and one son still at home, Jim is a first-time author.

C Through Marriage came into being through many years of pastoral and life experiences. The book first took on a life of its own over 20 years ago when I sought to address the much publicized moral failures of prominent leaders in the church. In the chaper on Chasity, I include the guideliness that I developed then to protect one’s self from such failures.

I am a firm believer in order to make sense out of life you have to use much common sense. We need to get back to the basics of what has worked for many, many generations. If is isn’t broke, why try to fix it? I strive to return to the basics of what really works in all my writings.
