A POWERFUL RELATIONSHIP: PRAYER PARTNERSHIP by Lorieen Henry

On a day when many are celebrating the New Year, how many of us are thinking about our relationship with others? The New Year is a time for celebration and thanksgiving. Besides we made it through another year, why not rejoice! No matter the ups or downs, we have breath in our body to tell our story. But have we considered how to make our relationships better in 2014?

Hmmmmmmmmmmm… It’s simple: I submit we pray! Pray for every relationship in our lives. Whether that relationship is a close personal relationship or a relationship through social media. Every relationship needs maintenance and we can cover a lot of relationship maintenance through prayer.

When I talk to God, I find that He works on me. He works on my heart, my delivery, the way I receive things and He graces me with compassion. Over the past 2 years, He has made Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 come to life for me through linking me with a prayer partner.

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 NIV).

I have been in church well over 30 years. I had heard the challenge many times to find a prayer partner because there is strength in numbers as it pertains to standing against the enemy. However, for years, it sounded like gibberish in my head. My initial thoughts were “I have enough people in my life. Some of them pray for me and some of them don’t, but I know Jesus for myself so I can pray.”

For years, I missed out on this powerful relationship (A PRAYER PARTNER) because of my close-mindedness and sheer laziness. Let’s face it, having a prayer partner would take some work on my part. I would have to make a commitment to someone else not to mention, I’d have to show some level of vulnerability.

Nonetheless, “THANK GOD”, I finally…finally gained enough courage to believe God that a prayer partner was worth my time. If you are thinking, I have friends and we pray. I’m not speaking of friendship. I’m talking about a relationship where the foundation is established on prayer. You and your partner don’t always have to talk nor do you have to agree. However, during those times, you are still committed to praying for each other. The Prayer Partnership is not focused on the latest gossip but it has roots in God. It’s a relationship where you can confide in each other without judgment or fear of confidentiality being broken. You don’t manipulate one another, but you serve each other freely without looking for anything in return. You uplift each other as well as the others concerns up before God.

“Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matt. 18:19-20, KJV).

Whenever we pray in agreement with another person, God promises to answer and be in our midst. The power of agreement totally blows my mind. Therefore, I want to share a few things with you as a result of my Prayer Partnership.

  1. I finished a book right after my Prayer Partner spoke these words to me, “Your purpose equals impact”. I’ve since started 2 others and a blog.
  2. My overall life is balanced. There are things that I used to burden (not his words) my husband with that I now take to God in prayer. With my prayer partner in the picture, I figured out that my husband doesn’t need to hear the petty stuff. I still need to get it out with someone I trust so having a prayer partner enhances my marriage.
  3. When I am weak and don’t want to pray, she directs me back to the Word of God and continues to pray for me. Not to mention, we struggle through stuff together. But because of our foundation in God and our commitment to pray for each other, WE CAN’T BE DEFEATED!

The most powerful relationship I have is my relationship with God. My relationship with my husband is my most treasured earthly relationship. On this day, I celebrate 10 years of marriage to the earthly vessel God created for me. And because I have experienced another level of where God can take you with a prayer partner, I pray that each of you seek God on providing you a prayer partner as well.

Pray with me:

Heavenly Father, thank you for a new year. This is a new day with brand new mercies and an opportunity for us to grow and do better. Lord, you’ve given us so much to be thankful for. We have not been perfect vessels. We have not always treated each other as you require. But I pray that in 2014 that we will attempt to mend broken relationships as it aligns in your perfect will. Show us how to live as you require and help us to seek more of you and to surround ourselves with like minded individuals who also seek more of you. For those who already have prayer partners, I pray that you will strengthen their relationship and their commitment to you and each other. I also pray for those who are lost without a clue in this area that you will send them someone to touch and agree with. Your word clearly outlines the power of two or more seeking you. In Jesus name, Amen.

When we begin to open our mouths and stand up for Jesus, satan gets angry. As long as we are alone, quiet, defeated and seated…we aren’t a threat. When we begin to partner up in prayer, we become frontline warriors. POWER UP WITH PRAYER AND PARTNER UP TO PRAY! ~ Lorieen D. Henry
