As Christians, do we even know the answer to this question? Secondly, do we display it?
Sports Enthusiasts do an excellent job of letting you know up front who they root for. It usually doesn’t take long to know if a person likes sports after you first meet them. They usually are more than happy to tell you their favorite team. They can roll off general stats from their team and the stats of their favorite player.
But when we meet people, can they feel how much we love God? Do we exude a passion for Him that is contagious? Do we ramble about His goodness and mercy and give His stats. Do we speak of the miracles He has performed? What I’ve found is that we are more likely to sport a football jersey or cap of a popular team than so boldly express the love of Christ.
I have known many band wagon riders. Let’s think about all the people who don’t really follow sports, but they support the major sporting events. Why? They like the atmosphere and they want to be a part. They may have a friend who has a team going to the Super Bowl so they want to support and be a part of the parties and get in on the hype.
Let’s take a look at our lives. We’ve got to boldly acknowledge Christ and let the world know that we are Team Jesus before we are a fan of any other sport. When we begin to get excited about the God we serve, others can see who we are rooting for and won’t have to guess. We’ve got to start celebrating our brothers and sisters so that we spread the love of Christ. This is not the season for backbiting because people need to know “Who ya rootin’ for” and that can only be displayed by your actions.
It’s time to get vocal!
2 Timothy 1:7-8 God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord…
Let’s not only let the world know about our God, but let’s encourage our brothers and sisters along the way. It’s time to be Christ like!
1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
Hebrews 10:24-25 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Galatians 6:2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
