What Is Your Favorite Christmas Music?

by Rebekah Beene

Favorite Christmas songs fill the air everywhere we go these days. This morning one old hymn comes to my mind “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus, Come to Set the Captives Free”. The first verse goes on to say “from our fears and sins release us, let us find our rest in thee.  Israel’s strength and consolation,
hope of all the earth thou art; dear desire of every nation, joy of every longing heart.”

We must admit there are longings in our hearts. We know don’t we? There are things that haven’t worked out quite right. Whether it’s the lights strung crookedly on the tree to heartaches too deep to mention, we all have our longings.  We want to be happy and free and yet life can be quite the struggle, especially at Christmas.

What do we do? Where do we go? How do we live? Who will help us?

Oh beloved, this morning Christ has come – your long expected Jesus! He has come to release you from your fears and sins, but there’s more. He has come so that you can find your rest in Him. He alone is your strength and consolation – He alone is your hope. He fulfills your desires and gives you joy even in the longing. He is Great and greatly to be praised! He is all you will ever need and nothing else will ever satisfy you like He does.

As you prepare the festive season and you look forward a few days to the Christmas Holy Day, listen to the Words of that song and listen to the Words of your Savior. He says to you today “I have come that you may have life – and that more abundantly!”

God loves you and He is for you!  He is for you! As you look to Him your face will truly grow radiant and all around you will grow dim as you live in the Light of His Wonderful Face!

Psalm 145:16 When You open Your hand You satisfy the hunger and thirst of every living thing.

John 10:10 …I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].

Psalm 22:26 The afflicted will eat and be satisfied; Those who [diligently] seek Him and require Him [as their greatest need] will praise the Lord.  May your hearts live forever!

Luke 4:17-19 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me (the Messiah), Because He has anointed Me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent Me to announce release (pardon, forgiveness) to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed (downtrodden, bruised, crushed by tragedy), to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord [the day when salvation and the favor of God abound greatly].”

About the Author:

Rebekah Beene

In a Christian Women’s meeting in 1983, Rebekah was given a prophetic message that she would write books. Several years ago she began writing stories about special holiday memories and travels, sharing God’s love and care through each story. God has gifted Rebekah with the ability to look at the natural and see the supernatural. Both Rebekah and her husband Danny have a heart to share the Gospel and the riches of life in Christ to everyone they meet. They have served in the local church and in ministry to motorcyclists. Danny is an ordained minister and they both have been Bible study teachers for many years. Rebekah also speaks at women’s retreats and conferences. Her tag line says it all “God loves you and He’s for you”.
