CrossPs. 119:28 I weep with grief, encourage me by your word.

I believe it’s pretty safe to say that you know what it is like to weep with grief. It is a human experience we all go through. It might be the loss of a loved one due to death, a broken relationship, watching someone you care deeply about self-destruct because of sinful choices, overwhelming circumstances that control you and you can’t regain control over them, the loss of something valuable to you that you can’t prevent from happening, or something else going on in your life. Whatever the situation may be, it is common for us to suffer grief. We sense the hopeless and helplessness of our situation and there is nothing we can do but weep over it. It is life.

When times of grief come, there is only one lasting way to deal with it. We must go to the Word of God and let the Comforter minister to our hurting soul. In the Word we discover there is a way out of our grief. We discover there is One who can help us. We discover that we are not alone in our sufferings, that there is nothing we go through that has not been gone through before and that we can make it through because others have. We discover that as we meditate on the Word and draw near to the Lord of the Word, He draws near to us. We discover that we can do all things through Christ who is able to deliver us.

When grief floods your soul, don’t wallow in its misery. Flee to the Word of God and let the Spirit guide you into its truths. Let God remind you that He is your Immanuel and that because He is with you, everything is going to be alright. The Lord will encourage you by His Word if you but let Him. Spending quality and quantity time in the Word opens up heaven’s doors and the Lord of heaven floods our souls. Let the Lord soothe your grieving heart as you meditate upon His wondrous promises.

About the Author:

Jim HughesSpending his formative years in Ft. Wayne, IN, Jim followed the love of his life to southeast Iowa where they married and have spent the majority of their lives. Jim has pastored several churches throughout his life and has worked many years in local factories to help support his family. The father of two married adult children and one son still at home, Jim is a first-time author.

C Through Marriage came into being through many years of pastoral and life experiences. The book first took on a life of its own over 20 years ago when I sought to address the much publicized moral failures of prominent leaders in the church. In the chapter on Chasity, I include the guideliness that I developed then to protect one’s self from such failures.

I am a firm believer in order to make sense out of life you have to use much common sense. We need to get back to the basics of what has worked for many, many generations. If is isn’t broke, why try to fix it? I strive to return to the basics of what really works in all my writings.
