Verse of the Day and Devotion

But we will not boast beyond limits, but will boast only with regard to the area of influence God assigned to us, to reach even to you. II Corinthians 10:13 ESV

Devotion

You have to know your limits. You have to know the assignments God has called you to take on, the anointings He has given you for those assignments, and the special gifts He has given you to help fulfill the assignments. Unlike some of the other people that had worked in the church of Corinth, Paul knew his limits. The others boasted of things they were not called to do in order to curry favor with the Corinthians. Paul, on the other hand, only boasted of things he had been called to do. Even then, he designed his boasting to glorify God (II Corinthians 10:17).

You have to know your limits. Paul was limited to the religious sphere of life. He was called by God to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, whereas Peter, James, and John were called to spread the Gospel to the Jews (Galatians 2:9). You, on the other hand, may have been called to an entirely different sphere of life. Maybe you’ve been called to be a teacher, or a business owner, or a truck driver, or an accountant, or whatever. The Kingdom of God embraces every sphere of life and every sphere needs people that can help bring it into alignment with God.

You have to know your limits. You have to know, because going outside of your limits will thwart your effectiveness. Indeed, it can be dangerous to go outside of your limits. A person called to go into business that feels he/she can only serve God in the religious sphere will have problems and will cause problems. They will be trying to operate without the proper anointing and without the proper gifts. Instead of flowing in the power of the Holy Spirit, they will be trying to make things happen in the power of their own strength.

You have to know your limits. So, if your limits are not clear to you, then you need to pray about them and find out. You need to ask God to show you what He wants you to do with your life. You need to ask Him to show you the way.

Only then can you be truly effective in the Kingdom of God. Only then can you be truly happy and fulfilled.
