by Staci Stallings
It may be that I’m getting older. It may be that my middle daughter is a senior and so this past year has gone particularly fast. I’m not sure exactly what to attribute it to, but 2016 seems to have passed in less than a blink.
Weeks seem like days. Months seem like weeks. Weren’t we just getting the VBS stuff down from the attic? And that was six months ago. How is the Christmas tree back up and the lights in the yard? When did I get the Christmas cards sent out, the presents bought and wrapped, the groceries purchased?
And now it’s all over.
Time to think about New Years and black-eyed peas, resolutions, and a new school semester. Before long, it will be Valentine’s Day and then March, Easter, and before we know it, graduation.
For many years I chose a word for the new year—faith, joy, hope, love. This year I’m choosing CREATE, but I know already I will have to make it a point to do that because in a blink, we’ll be facing 2018, and it will be time to choose a new word.
The strangest thing about 2016 is looking back how many wonderful things happened that I did not plan to do. Books that were written, memories made, moments I wouldn’t trade for the world.
And as I “plan” for 2017, my thoughts go to what books will be written that I don’t even know about right now, what memories will be made, what moments I wouldn’t trade for anything.
I can’t say that this year I’m excited about the new year. Honestly, it feels like we just did this a couple of weeks ago. But it’s coming just the same.
So whatever “mode” you are in facing this year whether it is with excitement about a fresh start or moving through the pain 2016 brought, my prayer for you is that 2017 will be one of peace, joy, and love for you and yours…. Oh, and a little creativity as well!
Happy New Year, everyone!
