THE FLYOVER REPLAY,
Sunday, December 22, 2024,
Good Morning! On this day in 1882, Edward H. Johnson, an electrical engineer who worked with Thomas Edison, put up the first electric Christmas tree lights in his home in red, white, and blue.
Holiday inflatables have become a mainstay of seasonal decorating, but the jury is out on where they fit: are they beloved additions, or do they rank up there with the bedeviled fruitcake? Check out the Holiday section for more.

TAKEOFF,
Biden Signs Funding Bill Through March,
President Joe Biden signed a bill into law Saturday that averts a government shutdown and funds the government at current levels through March 14.
The bill provides $100 billion in disaster aid and $10 billion in agricultural assistance to farmers.
Early Saturday morning, the Senate overwhelmingly approved the bill by a margin of 85-11, with most Democrats and Republicans supporting the measure. The House approved the bill overwhelmingly, 366-34.
The Senate also approved the Social Security Fairness Act on Saturday, eliminating two federal policies that prevented nearly 3 million Americans, including police officers, firefighters, postal workers, teachers, and others with a public pension, from collecting their full Social Security benefits.
College Football Playoff Kicks Off,
Home teams dominated the first round of the College Football Playoff this weekend.

Later, Jaydon Blue and Quintrevion Wisner combined for 256 rushing yards and four touchdowns to lead No. 5 Texas over No. 12 Clemson, 38-24.

The top four seeds received a first-round bye. Quarterfinal games will be played on Dec. 31 (Fiesta Bowl) and Jan. 1 (Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl, and Sugar Bowl).
Holiday Lottery Jackpot Nears $1 Billion,
The Mega Millions jackpot is expected to reach almost $1 billion just in time to create some Christmas magic.
The estimated jackpot $944 million (a $429.4 million cash payout) is on tap for the next drawing on Tuesday, December 24. Only once has a Mega Millions jackpot been won on Christmas Eve. That happened in 2002 when a $68 million prize was won in New York—and went unclaimed.
The three jackpot awards so far in 2024 have been worth $1.128 billion (March), $552 million (June), and $810 million (September).
The chances of landing the nine-figure jackpot are 1 in about 302.6 million.

This work was first published in weekly installments over a twenty-year span in the London Metropolitan Tabernacle’s periodical, The Sword and the Trowel.
Completed sections were released volume by volume, until the seventh and final volume was released in 1885. Within a decade more than 120,000 sets had been sold. The Treasury of David is a superb literary achievement. Eric Hayden, pastor of the Metropolitan Tabernacle a century after Spurgeon’s ministry began there, calls this work “Spurgeon’s magnum opus.” Spurgeon’s wife said that if Spurgeon had never written any other work, this would have been a permanent literary memorial.
