TAKEOFF,
Poll: Americans Hopeful for 2025,
A majority of Americans feel hopeful as the new year approaches, with nearly half expressing confidence that President-elect Donald Trump will increase peace and stability worldwide, according to a new poll.
The CBS News/YouGov survey, which included over 2,200 adults, found that 57% are optimistic about the country’s direction—up 10% from last year. Reasons for this optimism included Trump’s upcoming presidency, the economy, and personal finances.
This marks the second consecutive month in which the CBS News/YouGov poll has reflected a positive reception for the incoming Trump administration.
In November, a majority of respondents reported feeling either happy or at least satisfied with Trump’s election victory, expressing enthusiasm about what he might achieve as president.
Map: Credit Card Debt Burden by State,
The average U.S. household carries $6,140 in credit card debt, revealing significant disparities in debt burdens across the country, according to a new report.
The analysis looked at consumer data and found that rising costs have driven increased credit card usage, leading to higher overall debt and making repayment more challenging for many households.
Households in wealthier states tend to carry higher balances but are often able to pay them off more quickly. Conversely, households in poorer states face prolonged repayment periods. For those making only minimum payments, it would take at least 17 years to fully pay off the national average debt of $6,140.
Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Alabama have the longest payoff timelines, while Massachusetts, California, Minnesota, and New Hampshire have the shortest.

This work was first published in weekly installments over a twenty-year span in the London Metropolitan Tabernacle’s periodical, The Sword and the Trowel.
Completed sections were released volume by volume, until the seventh and final volume was released in 1885. Within a decade more than 120,000 sets had been sold. The Treasury of David is a superb literary achievement. Eric Hayden, pastor of the Metropolitan Tabernacle a century after Spurgeon’s ministry began there, calls this work “Spurgeon’s magnum opus.” Spurgeon’s wife said that if Spurgeon had never written any other work, this would have been a permanent literary memorial.
