by Suzanne D. Williams
He knows our feeble frame, that we are but dust. So says the Psalm. Yes, He knows. But He chose to make us in His image, in His likeness, out of dust. And He chose to breathe His life into us, though we were made of dust. And to stand us in the garden He had created specifically for us, His children made of dust.
He then blessed the dust. Go and multiply, He said, make more people of dust, and take dominion over every creature, every bird, everything He’d made on this earth, formed of dust. Then, when sin entered the world and men began to return to dust, He put into motion the plan He had ordained from before the foundation of time to save what was only dust.
He sent His Son to earth as dust, to heal those oppressed by the enemy of dust, to hang on a cross and die, as dust, so that He could rise from the dust and give back to man the dominion over the dust. In Christ, the Messiah of dust, He returned to those of dust, who chose to believe, the authority He’d given over the dust in the beginning and then crowned Him King over the dust that He had created.
King of the kings of dust. Lord over all the nations of dust. Savior of the children of dust.
And one day, He will return and every eye, made of dust, will see Him. And death which destroys the man made of dust, will be no more, and all who believe in His death and Resurrection from the dust, will live in His Presence forever, their sorrow and mourning, their bondage to dust gone forevermore.
