Left Something Behind?

My dad liked to move a lot. I am remembering one move in particular this morning. I was almost 9 and I was glad to leave the school I was attending. But I also had to leave Nipper behind. He was one of my favorite dogs of all time. A border collie mix, he went everywhere I did. We lived in the country and I spent a lot of time in the woods, at the creek on our property and riding my bicycle up and down the red dirt roads. He was always at my side. The day we left I watched out the back window of our car with my best buddy standing in the road watching us drive away. I was broken hearted but there was no asking why or begging to take him with me.

Oh beloved, if you’re like me you’ve had to leave some things behind. In this new place you are going, there’s not room for everything. You may feel broken hearted and disconsolate. You want things to say the same. You want your world to keep revolving slowly, steadily and just like you’ve gotten used to. I wish I could say it always stays the same. But just as I moved a lot and left things behind, so too God moves us here and there and things change, people change, life changes.

God wants you to know this morning that while you want to look in the back window and watch, it’s time to turn around and look forward. Yes, some things are the fault of others. But you have places to go. God doesn’t want to break your heart, but He does want you to know He can be trusted even in the most heartbreaking times. Even in seasons of despair, when you just want to leave things as they are, He is with you. He gives your soul relief as you roll your cares on Him. Every move, every change, everything whisked away from you, gives you a new level of strength. Strength to rely on Him, strength to stand for Him and strength to face an unknown future with Him. Don’t spend all your time wishing and asking why. All things in our lives aren’t great, but all things truly do work together for our good. Your destiny lies in learning to go on with the Lord in spite of it all. You are not the sum of your disappointments or your past. You are the multiplication of your salvation in Christ and the Spirit which dwells in you now. God wants to use you wherever you go and as you call on Him He will encourage and equip you to be victorious as you walk into the future He has prepared for you.

God loves you and He’s for you. Everything you go through isn’t from Him. But He promises to take you out of the discouragement and into His courage. Run to Him this morning, lay it all out before Him and trust in His plans as you live in the Light of His Glorious care.

1 Corinthians 1:9 God, who has called you into fellowship with His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.

Genesis 45:5 But don’t be upset, and don’t be angry with yourselves for selling me to this place. It was God who sent me here ahead of you to preserve your lives.

I Peter 1:7 These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold–though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

Psalm 31:19 How abundant are the good things that You have stored up for those who fear You, that You bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in You.

In a Christian Women’s meeting in 1983, Rebekah was given a prophetic message that she would write books. Several years ago she began writing stories about special holiday memories and travels, sharing God’s love and care through each story. God has gifted Rebekah with the ability to look at the natural and see the supernatural. Both Rebekah and her husband Danny have a heart to share the Gospel and the riches of life in Christ to everyone they meet. They have served in the local church and in ministry to motorcyclists. Danny is an ordained minister and they both have been Bible study teachers for many years. Rebekah also speaks at women’s retreats and conferences.
