One year ago today (the 5th of May) we began to realize that a back problem was actually a stroke. We had trusted the doctors and were seeking help for this back problem. But upon the second trip to the emergency room we were sent to Little Rock. While there the full-blown effects of what was really wrong began to surface. It was terrifying, upsetting and unbelievable.
This anniversary is also the anniversary of choices. I will be the first to say I had always counted on my hubby to take care of problems – both big and small. And he was very good at it. But this day I had to face it – this was beyond us being able to take care of it, either one of us. So, I did the only thing I could do – I ran to the Father and asked Him for help.
Thankfully this anniversary is not celebrated in terror or sorrow. It’s actually a blessed day. We faced the giant, we stood our ground, we fell into the Father’s arms and He sent help from the sanctuary. Over the last year we have seen amazing things happen. From a big toe beginning to move again (exponential y’all) to my hubby returning to work full time – God has been with us. He has given us an opportunity to retrace our steps and return a portion of time to us. Redeeming the time. He has given me the most precious gift – more time with the love of my life. We didn’t know in the beginning if we would ever be here a year later. But all along the way He was faithful to help with the fear, to silence the tears, to hide us in the shelter of Himself – our Rock.
Oh beloved, whatever you are facing, whatever the prognosis, whatever the sorrow – God is here for you. You might not want to celebrate the event, but you can celebrate the Lord! You aren’t alone in your troubles. You don’t have to figure out what to do, how to fix it or where to go for assistance. God will bring it to you. He will put angels in your path, instruct other human beings regarding your care and even change the circumstances completely. And even when He doesn’t do exactly what you want Him to do, He is still your best hope for a future and peace. He doesn’t make mistakes like mere humans do, nor is He bound by any earthly system.
You are not the sum of your sickness, sorrow, pain or despair. God is with you. He’s not even a breath away. You don’t have to drag yourself into His presence or hope He doesn’t refuse to see you. He delights in you. He looks for you to seek Him about it all. And most of all – He wants you to trust Him in the dark because He is your Light.
God loves you and He’s for you. Put your trust issues in His hands. Ask Him for the moon. Place the outcomes in His hands and know that you are here for a purpose, called and chosen to live fully engulfed in His presence as you walk in the Light of His wonderful, amazing, supernatural care for you.
Psalm 18:2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.
Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer.
Psalm 28:7 The LORD is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving!
Palm 59:17 O my Strength, to you I sing praises, for you, O God, are my refuge, the God who shows me unfailing love.
