I probably don’t need to ask this, but I’m going to anyhow. Do you want God’s unlimited resources to empower you? I’m sure the answer is yes. So, how does that happen? Paul showed us by example, it happens through prayer.
I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Ephesians 3:16
That my friend is a powerful prayer. It makes a person envision God holding a lightning bolt and throwing it straight into our hearts. Then all of a sudden we are zapped by His unlimited resources receiving empowerment from the inside out.
This brings us to one of the problems the church must deal with today. Hollywood produces these action-packed science fiction movies that we try to relate to in real life.
Sometimes we expect God to move among us in the same way. When He doesn’t, we become disappointed in the Lord and in our relationship with Him. God though, doesn’t normally do things the way Hollywood does.
He can intervene with us in any way He chooses, and we must understand that. Sometimes He does do the miraculous. And we can be grateful when He does. But most of the time, God will do things as a process.
Notice again how Paul was praying for the outcome of the Ephesian Christians. He prayed they would be empowered with inner strength. Then he told them why he was praying that way.
Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. Ephesians 3:17
God Is Love
I read a phrase the other day I thought was very profound. It was worded like this, love isn’t what God does, love is who God is. Paul prayed for the roots of our hearts to grow deep into God’s love, thus revealing some understanding to us.
And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. Ephesians 3:18
He wants us to realize how much love God has. Knowledge is good, but experience is better, which is the direction the next verse takes us.
May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Ephesians 3:19
When I was working on a title for this devotion, here is the one I almost used. “When You Experience God’s Love, Don’t Try To Understand It.” We can have an idea of how much love God has, but that is as far as our understanding will go.
God’s Unlimited Resources To Empower You
Let’s get back to this title, God’s unlimited resources to empower you. It’s not going to be a lightning bolt from heaven or a zap of some kind. No, our empowerment is the fullness of life from God.
Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Ephesians 3:19
Lord, thank you for making us complete with all the fullness of life and power. Even though we don’t understand your love we want to experience it every day of our lives.

/ January 11, 2022I enjoyed this thought-provoking post about God’s love and how we are called to open our hearts to His love. I am inspired to go back and read the listed verses in Ephesians. Thank you. God bless.
