Count Your Blessings

The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.   – Prov 10:22

I have to admit that there are times when I just don’t see His blessings. And on top of that, I am ungrateful at times, too. Blind and ungrateful, they do seem to go hand in hand.

Sometimes I look at others and see what He’s given them, what He has done in their lives, and yes, I give thanks for the blessings He gives to others. And still I don’t see His hand in my own life.

And then He opens my eyes!

Just driving down the street, His blessings and bounty become so obvious to me that I am driven to my knees (in my heart) to praise and thank Him for all that He’s given to me: me, who is so undeserving, so unworthy of all but scorn from Him.

His mercy is amazing, His love – beautiful.

He has showered me with gifts and talents. He has given me a wonderful home, a good family, job, friends, a wonderful church to be a part of. And sometimes, He needs to shake me up so I realize all that He’s given me, done for me.

The early snow here in the northeast last month brought difficult times to many people. Being without power for anywhere from days to a week was a challenge to deal with. But through it all, the message that rang in my heart was “count your blessings”.

Everywhere I looked, there were people whose circumstances were more difficult than my own. It was as if He had sheltered my family in His hands and made sure we were taken care of.

Some people had generators, others found someplace else to go; some got their power back quickly, others simply made the best of their own circumstances.

There were blessings for all to see if they would just open their eyes.
